During this charming season of fresh hope and new chances, the soft and sweet natural fragrances of flowers that bloom in spring inspire tranquility and confidence in our spirit to take the first steps in achieving the goals we’ve set at the start of the year. Wrap your home with this kind of rich and relaxing atmosphere in the scent of the aromatic Geranium in our pure aromatherapy essential oil single, Géranium Egypte (Geranium Egypt/Jeranyom Peyi Lejip).

Its main ingredient, Pelargonium graveolens, is a hybrid from the Pelargonium species that is native to South Africa, although it was introduced to the West during the 17th century from early traders’ voyages around the Cape of Good Hope.[1]

Geraniums were all the rage in the 1800s. The scented flowers have enchanted gardeners to let them grow in their healthy soils, and with the abundant sources, Geraniums were much more affordable than the luxurious rose fragrances, hence easily establishing its red, lavender, white and pink blossoms as a calming presence in every household.[1] It has even inspired numerous literary and artworks that express the serene effect Geraniums give off. For example, in Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park (1814), the heroine Fanny Price saw the Geraniums in her chambers as her natural source of mental strength.[2]

Although not as well-known as other herbs, Geraniums were also featured in folk tales and superstitions. In Poland, Geraniums were once seen as a “protector of home” and “symbol of hope” due to their fresh and clean fragrance filling Polish households amid the pollution in the area.[1]

In the 19th century, Geranium oil was first cultivated for distillation in France, before its commercial production had spread to different parts of Europe, Africa, and Asia.[3] Produced through steam distillation of its stalks, leaves, and flowers, it was initially used for pain-relieving, sedative, and even insect repelling.[4]

At present, Geranium essential oils, particularly the Pelargonium graveolens hybrid, are largely cultivated in China, Russia, and Egypt.[4] The herb’s relaxing scent has made it become an important part of cosmetics, households, fragrances, and aromatherapy.[3]

Geranium is a perennial herb, meaning it could last three to five years before it can produce good harvests. In addition, growing Geranium requires a lot of care. It mostly grows in subtropical climates where it’s warm and humid. As it thrives in hot and wet weather, Geraniums are best harvested in the spring.[1]

Similar to our goals and dreams, it takes a lot of time, patience, and care before we really see the fruits of our own labor. And in every journey, the starting point is a significant part that launches us in the direction we are aiming for.

In the season of new beginnings, gain the confidence that you need to get started on your plans for change. Breathe in the sweet, floral, and herbaceous fragrance of Géranium Egypte essential oil as you start and end your day with a motivated and serene mind.

Serene scented oils are popularly used at homes in essential oil diffusers. In aromatherapy, it is recommended to add three to five drops of Géranium Egypte per 100 mL of water. Still, for best results, make sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

In the unavailability of a diffuser, using a mixer bottle is a good alternative. You can mix 30 to 60 drops of the essential oil into 4 oz. of water. Don’t forget to shake well before spraying this relaxing essential oil in all parts of your room.

On the other hand, you should exercise caution in using aromatherapy products as well and consult with your doctor, especially if you have a certain sensitivity to fragrances, or if you are pregnant, nursing, or taking medications. It’s only for external use; avoid contact in the eyes, ears, mouth, or skin. Essential oils are also flammable, so make sure to store them in a cool, dry place.

As you fully embrace the refreshing and hopeful ambiance of spring, let our very own Géranium Egypte essential oil wrap you with tranquility at the beginning of your journey to self-discovery within the comforts of your home.
