Our Story
I am Katy, founder of Maréfleur by Essence & Sérénité, a certified aromatherapist and artisan natural perfumer based in Burlington, Massachusetts.
Maréfleur began in 2021, born from a single unexpected moment. I was at a local gym, overwhelmed and depleted the way so many of us are in the middle of a busy life, when I stepped inside and stopped. As soon as I entered, I was enveloped by a gentle, sweet ocean scent that immediately relaxed me and transported me back to my childhood memories of Jacmel, a coastal town in my home country, Haiti, where I used to vacation with my family. I was surprised that a scent could be so powerful.
I wanted to replicate that state of relaxation at home. And I was pleasantly surprised to discover that natural scents could create a calm ambiance that helped me engage more meaningfully in self-reflection and my everyday activities. That experience was the seed from which this brand grew.
I first launched under the name Essence & Sérénité. In time, it became Maréfleur by Essence & Sérénité to carry a deeper message: that when we find our essence and our serenity, we bloom. Maréfleur has become my creative and educational journey, rooted in the healing power of natural scent, the wisdom of seasonal living, and the belief that fragrance is one of the most profound and underused tools for self-discovery available to us.

Meaning of our Name
Maréfleur evokes the image of a sea of flowers, each tide bringing more blossoms to the surface. Paired with Essence & Sérénité, it symbolises the continuous unveiling of our inner beauty, our tranquility, and our renewal as we navigate the waves of life.
Our name embodies our belief that life's deepest aspiration is to uncover our authentic essence while cultivating serenity amidst the ever-changing tides of existence. Natural scent is our guide on that journey.
